What file types can you upload?

File Type How it is handled and presented Example
Movie Files
(.avi, .mpg, .mp4, .wmv, mov, .divx, and many others)
  • The original movie file is stored for later download
  • The movie is is compressed into a Flash(TM) Video - FLV
  • An image thumbnail is generated from the movie for use when browsing folders.
  • An 'video thumbnail' (a postage stamp sized slideshow) is generated from the movie for using when browsing folders.
  • The Flash video stream is displayed in iPOV's Flash video player.

Caveats:
  • Movies with unsupported codecs sometimes result in non-helpful error messages. If you experience errors contact iPOV (support@ipov.net) and we will work to address your issue ASAP.
Flash Movies
( .flv)
  • The Flash video stream is displayed in iPOV's Flash video player.
  • An image thumbnail is generated from the movie for use when browsing folders.
  • An 'video thumbnail' (a postage stamp sized slideshow) is generated from the movie for using when browsing folders.

Caveats:
  • Exteral FLVs can contain 'metadata', if generated using non-standard tools this metadata may have inconsistencies resulting in problems durning playback. If you experience errors contact iPOV (support@ipov.net) and we will work to address your issue ASAP.
Flash  Animations
(.swf)
  • Flash animation files are saved in their original form for later downloading
  • Flash animations are displayed without additional processing either in iPOV's video player, or in standalone form (for SWFs with builtin controls)
  • An image thumbnail is generated from the first frame of the animation.

Known Issues:
  • If the SWF was saved in compressed format, thumbnail generation will currently fail (resulting in a default 'Flash' icon).
Acrobat Files
(.pdf)
  • Original PDF document is saved for later downloading
  • A small thumbnail is generated for identification in the Folder view
  • A large thumbnail is generated from the document's first page to make identification easier in File view

Known Issues:
  • The large thumbnail is currently 'full size' occasionally fooling some users into believing it is the actual PDF.
Audio
(.mp3)
  • The original audio file is preserved for later downloading
  • The audio can be played directly from the page in a Flash audio player.

Future Support:
  • Future releases will add support for auto-conversion of other audio files to web streamable MP3, while preserving original file; currently files such as .wav audio are download only.
Other Files
(any other file, including: .doc, .rft, .txt, .html, .zip)
  • All files not in the previous categories are stored without processsing
  • A default thumbnail/icon, and file download link are shown for each file
  • Users can set custom thumbnail/icon images to help make certain file easier to visually navigate to.

Future Support:
  • We hope to offer support for conversion (with administrative settings) of other formats to web-viewable forms (e.g. Office Docs to PDF form).
